Why Do Authors Need A Web
Site?
As a self published author you are publishing and printing your poetry
book, childrens book, relationship book, motivation book, dog and cat
book, Christian book, cook book for a profit, aren’t you?
You want to give yourself every advantage when you publish your own
book. If you use a print on demand, make sure you go to their site
where your book is posted to see what type hoops your customers will
have to jump through. Order a book.
Your target market maybe more comfortable going to your web site than
the company site. Having your own web site will allow you to build a
brand around your book offer. You will not have control, in most
cases, over your publishers web site.
Publishers promote their whole line of books, so your book may be given
limited priority, even if you pay the extra fee.
The benefit of having a web site: local promotions go direct to your
site; you get to keep more of your retail cost, rather than it going
through the print on demand. You are, however, positioned for greater
exposure through the self publishing companies which works to your
advantage. When you own your web site, you can refresh and update it as
often as you like. Your web site is about you and not several hundred
other books and authors.
Your book publisher’s goal is not just to promote you alone;
they
have a responsibility to expose all of the books in their inventory.
What that may mean, a customer comes in looking for you and instead
buys someone else’s book before they get to you.
In the event you choose not to return to that self publisher, you still
have your web site. You also have the option of expanding your web site
with audio, pictures, etc. to attract more traffic.
A web site can be used to share excerpts from your book to build reader
interest, adding up to more book sales and making the effort to publish
your own book potentially more profitable.
