Publish A Book Now: The Same
Rules Apply
to Christian Book Publishing

What
is stirring in your spirit? Have you
been awakened spiritually? Or
perhaps your re-connection with the spirit within has changed your life
in some way and you want to publish a book about your life, or some
aspect of your life; maybe it is an autobiography, or some other work.
It doesn’t matter.
It happened to me. Little did I know from the age of 10 I was living
out my life, to record it on pages, to inspire someone else’s
life.
When I wrote my life story there was nothing spiritual about it. I was
writing about a life before Christ, that had been transformed by
Christ, but it was still more of the before.
It took some time to realize that my book was not written about the
life of a Christian but a sinner whose life had been transformed. These
are some of the challenges of Christians as authors who opt to self
publish. We target a Christian audience with a story that may be
received as a worldly story but it ends up with a changed life.
It is important in Christian Book Publishing to understand how to
position your book. I had a two-fold reason for sharing my story: I
wanted to share the freedom in Christ after a sinful life; and I wanted
to use it as a tool to win the lost without being preachy but through
my life’s story allow them to see who I was before and how
God
intervened and changed my life.
It took me five years to write the story, edit and proofread it, and
another three years learning how to self publish. I desired to produce
a quality work. I took my time because I was conscientious, and a
perfectionist. I knew nothing about self
publishing.
I have to admit, looking back, that I am glad I took my time.
Publishing your own book has its challenges. I was determined. Too
often we rush into the market, believing that God has placed an
urgency; that he has called this work to be a bestseller and that
it’s destined for Oprah; yes, many Christian writers write
with
that though in mind.
Christian Book Publishing is no different than the traditional
publishing. Christian Book publishing companies want to buy books that
will make a profit. When you as a Christian write a book, you should
follow the same guidelines; carve out a market and write to that
market.
If you want to write about parenting children as a Christian, then that
is your market. Your market would be Married Christians with children,
or expecting to have children, not singles.
I believe in the Christian market,
writing to a niche is profitable.
Yes, you can generalize the market by writing to motivate, or inspire,
to encourage-- nothing wrong with that-- the body of Christ needs that.
The written testimonies of the saints are in
demand, as well.
Christians who self publish.
. . compare.
